Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
What is a tummy tuck?
After pregnancy or weight loss, excess skin and fat can distort the appearance of the abdomen. The abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck" procedure, creates a flatter, firmer abdomen by removing excess fat and skin, and tightening the abdominal muscles.
How to choose a plastic surgeon?
Choosing the right plastic surgeon is essential. It is important to choose a plastic surgeon that is Board Certified, and who is either a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery "ASPS" or the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery "ASAPS"; or both. This means that the plastic surgeon that you are choosing possesses the highest qualifications. Additionally it is important to choose a plastic surgeon who will perform your procedure either in a AAASF facility, a facility that is certified by The Joint Commission, or a hospital setting. Tis means that your procedure is being performed in the safest setings.
Choose a plastic surgeon who is local as after care is an essential part of the procedure. All Body Cosmetica physician affiliates are members of the ASPS or ASAPS who perform in accredited facilities.
Lastly, it is important to go on a consultation so that you can choose the plastic surgeon that you feel most comfortable with. At Body Cosmetica our patient coordinators introduce you the plastic surgeon that is right for you.
How much does a tummy tuck cost?
Every patient is different, and so is every plastic surgeon. There is no one size fits all; therefore prices vary depening on what part of the country you are in, and which plastic surgeon you choose.
The surgeons fee for a Tummy Tuck can range from $6500 to $12,000. Many patients with a credit score of 580 and above choose to finance their procedure. At Body Cosmetica we offer Cosmetica Payment Plus, where we work with you to get you the best programs and rates in the marketplace. To determine if you are approved for financing click here:
What are the different techniques available?
The abdominoplasty procedure is performed with a horizontal incision in the lower abdomen within the bikini line. The rectus abdominis muscles of the abdomen are tightened when indicated, and the excess skin and fat are trimmed and redraped. Liposuction is sometimes used in addition to address the flanks. Most abdominoplasty surgeries require repositioning of the umbilicus, or navel. In the "mini" abdominoplasty procedure, lower abdominal muscle tightening with fat and skin removal are performed through a limited horizontal bikini incision only, without repositioning of the navel. Small drain tubes are placed with both techniques. The tummy tuck procedure averages two hours in length and is performed in our private ambulatory surgery facility under general anesthesia. Most patients are able to return home that evening.
What should I expect after a tummy tuck procedure?
After the procedure, a soft abdominal binder is placed. The drains are removed 1-2 weeks following procedures. Most sutures will dissolve. Patients generally require one week off from work after this type of procedure. Walking is permitted and encouraged immediately after the procedure, but strenuous activity and heavy lifting are limited until six weeks following the tummy tuck procedure.
