What is breast augmentation?
Also known as augmentation mammoplasty, the procedure involves using implants for fuller breasts or to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy. In addition, breast implants may be used to reconstruct a breast after mastectomy or injury.
How to choose a plastic surgeon?
Choosing the right plastic surgeon is essential. It is important to choose a plastic surgeon that is Board Certified, and who is either a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery "ASPS" or the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery "ASAPS"; or both. This means that the plastic surgeon that you are choosing posesses the highest qualifications. Additionally it is important to choose a plastic surgeon who will perform your procedure either in a AAASF facility, a facility that is certified by The Joint Commission, or a hospital setting. This means that your procedure is being peformed under the safest settings.
Choose a plastic surgeon who is local, as after care is an essential part of the procedure. All Body Cosmetica physician affiliates are members of the ASPS or ASAPS who perform in accredited facilities.
Lastly, it is important to go on a consultation so that you can choose the plastic surgeon that you feel most comfortable with. At Body Cosmetica our patient coordinators introduce you the plastic surgeon that is right for you.
How much does a breast augmentation cost?
Every patient is different, and so is every plastic surgeon. There is no one size fits all; therefore prices vary depening on what part of the country you are in, which plastic surgeon you choose, and whether you choose saline or silicone.
Saline is less expensive; but most plastic surgeons prefer the look and feel of silicone.
The surgeons fee for Breast Augmentation can range from $4000 to $6000. Many patients with a credit score of 580 and above choose to finance their procedure. At Body Cosmetica we offer Cosmetica Payment Plus which works with each applicant to secure the best approvals at the best rates in the marketplace. To get approved click here:
What are the different techniques available?
During the procedure, the incision for placement of the implant may be made at the edge of the nipple, within the underarm or beneath the breast in the crease. Effective November 2006, both silicone and saline breast implants are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in cosmetic procedures. The breast implants are placed either behind the pectoralis muscles of the chest, or behind the glandular breast tissue. The procedure takes two hours and is performed on an ambulatory basis in our private ambulatory surgery facility. We encourage patients to choose their size implant by using various sizes in the office.
What should I expect after a breast augmentation procedure?
Immediately following your procedure, your breasts may appear full and firm. Most swelling will resolve within several days, and the breasts will achieve their final shape within six weeks. A support bra is placed at the time of the procedure, and a soft bra without an underwire may be worn after one week. Light activity including walking is permitted and encouraged immediately following the breast enlargementprocedure. Heavy exercise should be avoided for three weeks. You may return to chest exercises six weeks after your procedure.
